VIOLIN

JUNIOR GROUP (14 and younger)

  • Two contrasting movements of baroque sonata for violin and piano (i.e. Händel, Corelli, Leclair); or two movements of solo sonata or partita by Bach or of fantasy for violin solo by Telemann;
  • One etude or caprice for violin solo (i.e. Kreitzer, Rode, Dancla, Dont, Geminiani, Wieniavski, Paganini);
  • 1st or 2nd and 3rd movements of violin concerto (i.e. Vivaldi, Viotti, Tartini, Mozart, Nardini.)

Total performance time: up to 20 minutes

SENIOR GROUP (15 and older)

  • Two contrasting movements of baroque sonata (i.e. Händel, Veraccini, Tartinin, Leclair); or two movements of solo sonata or partita by Bach;
  • One etude or caprice for violin solo (i.e. Dont, Wieniavski, Paganini, Ernst, Gavinies, Marteau);
  • One piece of participant’s choice;
  • 1st or 2nd and 3rd movements of violin and piano concerto (i.e. Wieniavski, Mendelssohn, Bruch, Vieuxtemps, Khachaturian, Tchaikovsky.)

Total performance time: up to 30 minutes


VIOLA

JUNIOR GROUP (14 and younger)

  • One virtuoso piece;
  • One slow piece;
  • 1st or 2nd and 3rd movements of baroque sonata or concerto.

Total performance time: up to 20 minutes

SENIOR GROUP (15 and older)

  • Two contrasting movements of baroque sonata;
  • One movement of suite by Bach;
  • One piece of participants’ choice;
  • 1st or 2nd and 3rd movements of concerto.

Total performance time: up to 30 minutes

CELLO

JUNIOR GROUP (14 and younger)

  • One virtuoso piece (i.e. Capriccio or Etude Caprice by Goltermann, The Bee by Schubert)
  • One slow piece (i.e. Melody by Rubinstein, Melody by Dvorak, Andante by Tartini, Arioso by Bach);
  • 1st or 2nd and 3rd movements of baroque sonata (i.e. Corelli, Vivaldi, Marcello, Caporalli) or concerto (i.e. Bach, Händel, Vivaldi).

Total performance time: up to 20 minutes

SENIOR GROUP (15 and older)

  • Two movements of baroque sonata (i.e. Eccles, Ariosti, Francoeur);
  • One movement of suite by Bach;
  • One piece of participant’s choice;
  • 1st or 2nd and 3rd movements of concerto (i.e. Haydn, Sain-Saens, Dvorak).

Total performance time: up to 30 minutes.

The choice of repertoire may include but should not be limited to the pieces listed above. Participants are encouraged to play pieces of their choice in each repertoire category. All participants should submit their competition repertoire with the application package.
